An element common to many scholars of different orientations is that of having recognized an “adaptive” function to “emotions”. Adaptive means that it allows the survival of the species over time and in the different life situations that arise.

Emotions are therefore a necessary endowment for survival, a bit like the contents of a hiker’s backpack.
